The Sydney Swans are pleased to welcome Kiara Hillier to the club’s AFLW team, secured in a trade with Brisbane in exchange for draft selection 73.

The 19-year-old spent two years in the Lions Academy after being selected with pick 78 in the 2022 draft.

Hillier averaged 11 disposals and five rebounds at the AFLW Under 18 Championships, and while she has been named as an emergency at the Lions, she is yet to make her AFLW debut.

Sydney Swans Executive General Manager Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, said she is looking forward to seeing what Hillier can do in the red and white.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kiara to the Swans. She’s a really exciting player who simply hasn’t had the opportunity on field amongst a really good side,” Mahony said.

“We have been really impressed with her training and watched her play in a scrimmage match where she showed promising signs of a strong career at the elite level.

“With family already living in Sydney, Kiara is no stranger to the lifestyle here. We believe she will be a great fit for the club.”

Sydney Swans senior AFLW coach Scott Gowans echoed Mahony’s comments.

“Kiara has impressive athletic ability, and she has worked really to try and secure an opportunity amongst a very established Lions team,” Gowans said.

“Given the opportunity, we truly believe she will shine. She has an elite kick, and she takes on the field and gains metres. We’re excited to see what she can bring to the Swans.”
