The Sydney Swans have dusted off the pre-season cobwebs with a 26-point victory in their match simulation against the Giants.

Logan McDonald enjoyed a strong showing in the forward line booting four goals, while Will Hayward slotted three of his own.

McDonald’s performance came as no surprise to Assistant Coach Mark McVeigh, who revealed the young forward had a strong pre-season.

“He’s ticked all the boxes. To see him put scoreboard pressure on the opposition is really good to see,” said McVeigh.

“We think he’s coming along nicely. Certainly with a new structure, with a new forward line with one of the greats in Buddy Franklin retiring, it’s an opportunity for him to hit the scoreboard and he did that today.”

Chad Warner hit the ground running with two majors in the opening quarter, while the Giants midfield struggled to contain him in the contest for the majority of the match.

Running defender Oliver Florent picked up where he left off from last season, while Braeden Campbell looks to be developing into a solid AFL footballer with a strong performance on the wing.

New recruits Brodie Grundy and James Jordon gave Swans fans at Tramway Oval plenty to cheer about, with the two combining well in the midfield.

“Grundy did some really good things today, I think we’re all excited with what we’ve seen not only with his ruck work but also around the ground,” said McVeigh.

“Jordon on the wing and going inside at times was really good, we’re really pleased. They’re two players who have had the luxury of training really solidly every week, they’re fit and firing.”

The Swans will get another opportunity next Thursday when they take on Brisbane in the AAMI Community Series at Blacktown International Sports Park.
