After a resounding 54-point victory over last year’s Grand Finalists, Brisbane Lions, GWS will head into this Saturday’s Sydney Derby XXVII against the Sydney Swans full of confidence.

Along with Swans, the Giants are sitting at 6-1 for the season, but will be bolstered by the likely return of three of its stars in Toby Greene, Sam Taylor and Stephen Coniglio for the top 4 clash.

GWS shouldn’t be daunted by the SCG either, having won four of the past five matches against the Swans at the venue, including a nail-biting one-point victory last season when Greene kicked the winner late in the game.

The Swans, however won the most recent game between the cross-town rivals by 11-points in Round 21 last season at the Showgrounds. In that match Tom Green amassed 38 disposals for the home side, while Errol Gulden gathered 32 of his own along with two goals.

During the week defender Sam Taylor claimed the Swans were ‘smug’ and went on to say there is no love lost between the two sides.

“There is a lot of dislike and once we get on the field, we want to beat them, we want to smack them and come home with the win,” Taylor said.

At the official Derby press conference, defender Connor Idun said he can’t wait to take on the Swans.

"There's obviously a rivalry. We love the derbies," Idun said.

“It’s great for the game. I guess Victoria has had that for a long time and I think it’s time for NSW to take over and continue that for sure.

“I don’t think it matters what ladder positions we are, every derby is a massive rivalry. They’re always close and a flip of the coin so we’re looking forward to it.”

First bounce on Saturday afternoon at the SCG is 1.45pm.
