Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe is supporting Enviroweek 2014 as 200,000 Aussie kids adopt eco challenges as they learn smarter ways to live for a greener future.

From this Sunday, August 24, Enviroweek tasks kids with a range of fun, engaging challenges, encouraging them to adopt positive, everyday habits highlighting the impact simple lifestyle changes can have on our environment.

In 2013 more than 162,000 young Australians joined in 490,000 challenges.

Rampe said Enviroweek is a great initiative and something he’s proud to support.

“There are some really clever initiatives that they've come up with for kids to take part in during Enviorweek 2014 – what kid wouldn't find the idea of 'Nude Food' fun?” Rampe said.

“Although that's only the simplest of examples, what struck me about the initiatives were that they were both fun and practical, which I guess is half the challenge.

“More importantly, I'm a big believer that there is a genuine connection between mental wellbeing and a connection with or appreciation for the environment so I encourage as many kids and schools to get involved as possible.”

Cool Australia and Enviroweek founder, Jason Kimberley says, “All schools, classrooms and teams can get on board Enviroweek. Teachers get access to free curriculum-based resources and kids learn fun, smarter ways to live.

“Easy but important challenges like, ‘nude food’ school lunches, reducing rubbish, growing food, or choosing a jumper over the heater empower kids to see how they can get involved in creating a cleaner, better future,” Kimberley says.

Since 2009, 338,000 Aussie kids have undertaken more than 1,014,000 challenges. All challenges have black balloons measures for young people to see their action grow across their school, community and Australia-wide.

Challenge themes cover waste and recycling, green spaces, health and wellbeing energy efficiency, sustainable food and gardening.

Enviroweek offers challenge-based learning, giving young Australians positive habits for smart ways to live and the opportunity to see how their actions can be a part of big positive change.
