Ollie Florent’s sparkling form in last weekend’s NEAFL win has earned the first-year draftee an immediate senior recall, the small forward the Sydney Swans’ only inclusion for Marn Grook at the SCG.

Florent replaces the injured Harry Cunningham (foot) for Friday night’s blockbuster against Hawthorn after collecting a composed 30 disposals against Sydney Uni in a wet and soggy night at Henson Park.

The 18-year-old played five games this season and was unlucky to be pulled, as a late omission, from Sydney’s Round 8 clash against North Melbourne but the coaches chose to manage the emerging talent’s workload instead.

He responded the following weekend in a best way possible, his composure and slick ball use in tough conditions not only helping the NEAFL Swans record a big win and but forcing the Match Committee to take notice.

Speaking on Centrum Team Selection, coach John Longmire the more exposure to AFL football, especially against a class side like Hawthorn, would only benefit a player of Florent’s ilk.

“Ollie is a very good young player,” Longmire said.

“We think that he can keep on improving and get him working on his game…more exposure to senior level the better.

“He comes in after a really strong performance in the reserves.”

In the frame for a return during the week was midfielder Kieren Jack who’s missed the past four rounds with a hip injury.

He completed a full week of training but Longmire erred on the side of caution and will give his former skipper a solid block of training before bringing him back into the side.

“He did a fair bit of training and has pulled up well but we just thought he’s maybe not quite right for a game just yet.

“We want to put more strength work into him over the next week or two before he’s right for the next game.

“He should be right for the game after the bye.”

Emergencies are Aliir Aliir, Jordan Dawson and Harry Marsh.
