The Sydney Swans and NSW Rural Fire Service will combine forces at the SCG on Sunday in support of a shattered Tathra community.

A blaze broke out in the South Coast town last Sunday which destroyed almost 100 homes, caravans and cabins which has left thousands in shock.

NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers will be on hand on Driver Avenue – the long stretch of road at the front of the SCG – to collect money for the Tathra Bushfire Mayoral Appeal Fund as the Swans face the Power.

NSW Rural Fire Service firefighter and Swans member Ros Daw says the funds will help the Tathra community in a big way.

“When bushfires like the one that’s struck in Tathra break out they really impact communities,” Daw said.

“Homes are often completely destroyed, families are hit hard financially and emotionally, photos are lost. Everything they once had is gone and they aren’t able to do anything about it.

“That’s where we can all come together and help these families who have had everything stripped away. Sunday’s fundraising effort will be huge for the people in Tathra."

Swans young gun Harry Cunningham met with Daw and other volunteers on Tuesday and says the club is always very open to helping those in need.

“At the Swans we love to give back to the community and particularly those in serious need,” Cunningham said.

“It’s terrible what’s happened in Tathra and the Swans are very much looking forward to trying to help those in need to recover.

“We encourage Swans and Power fans to give generously on Sunday, with every dollar raised going to the Tathra Bushfire Mayoral Appeal Fund.”
