The convoy of Volkswagen Multivans making their way along Driver Avenue on Saturday morning conjured up imagery of a Presidential motorcade, and while there were no members of congress in tow, there were some very special Sydney Swans members enjoying the ride.

The Multivans were chauffeuring the winners of the Volkswagen Drive to Fan Day with a Swan competition to the main gates of the SCG where the red carpet was rolled out for their arrival.

First to arrive was Anne Powell from Belmore and daughter, Elizabeth, who was accompanied to the SCG by Shane Mumford and Jack Lynch.

Anne’s winning entry to the competition was a well-constructed rhyming poem which captured her passion for the Swans - don’t be surprised if we pinch it for a banner one week!

Her entry read:
“Cheer for Joey, Yell for Reid,
Support the Bloods, Give what they need.
Scream for Goodes and Shout for Mummy,
On game day all our Swans look Yummy!!”

Next to arrive was North Bondi local, Winsome McPherson, and partner, Max Baldwin, who were in the car with Jude Bolton and Brett Meredith.

McPherson’s entry showed her dedication to the Sydney Swans, having only missed one home game since the Swans moved north 30 years ago, and also roping in Max who had never seen a game of footy before when they met 17 years ago but is now a loyal and passionate member.

McPherson’s entry read:
“I always wear Swans' colours. I have only missed one game played in Sydney since Swans came up here when I had to go to my sister-in-law's 100th birthday party.”

McPherson said she had an enjoyable day and she’s now keen to see the Swans in action in round one of the season proper on March 24.

“What a thrill to travel with two lovely young footballers,” McPherson said to sydneyswans.com.au following Saturday’s Fan Day.

“When we arrived there were lots of people to welcome us and I really enjoyed the tour of the Swans' facilities, especially the locker room.”

Included in the prize was an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Swans’ change rooms which is rarely seen by the general public.

With the tour led by Nick Smith and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, it was an experience McPherson will never forget.

“I would have loved to have spent more time in it as I wanted to read all the names on the different lockers as I remembered watching so many of them playing,” she said.

“Nick Smith and Lewis Roberts-Thomson did a great job of explaining everything to us.

“We were driven back to my home after [the Fan Day] was all over as well.”
