In summation...

Another strong season on the last line of defence saw Heath Grundy considered among the best backmen in the competition.

Unlucky to miss out again on All Australian selection, Grundy was a pillar in the league's best defence and helped lead the way for the younger players in the senior squad as a member of the Club's leadership group.

He averaged 17 disposals across his 24 games - one of six who played all 24 matches in season 2017 - as well as five marks and four rebound 50s.

He continually did the team things and was ranked first for 'one per centers' (104) at the football club (smothers, shepherds etc) and fourth for marks and contest marks.

He successfully negated the best forwards in the game and turned up the dial in big games, especially finals to share the Paul Roos Award for Best Player in Finals alongside Kieren Jack for his performances in the elimination and semi finals.

Best performance...

Elimination Final v Essendon at the SCG
Grundy's performance against the Bombers in the Swans' win in week one of finals had a big say in the reliable defender's Paul Roos Award win. He was outstanding, collecting 22 disposals and taking 10 marks in the triumph.

What they said...

"Goes to show it's not just the back six. Our forwards and midfields play a massive role for how we go about our footy and makes my life easier."
- Heath Grundy for SwansTV in the lead up to the finals series.
