Isaac Heeney has polled the full coaches votes in Round 1 after the Sydney Swans' victory over Collingwood on Friday. He now sits first on the overall ladder.

Heeney was instrumental in the midfield with 29 disposals, four tackles and two goals to his name. The 27-year-old has been tasked with leading a side of young mids in the absence of captain Callum Mills, Luke Parker and Taylor Adams. All out due to injury.

Three star midfielders were also recognised for their efforts, earning five votes apiece.

James Rowbottom was a machine in midfield defence landing 13 tackles and stifling the Pies' momentum. Chad Warner and Errol Gulden were hugely important in the Swans ball movement across the MCG with 27 disposals and three goals, and 30 disposals respectively.

John Longmire praised Heeney for his leadership ability in a press conference last week.

"He’s the older one (that’s not that old) but his ability to help in the contest and really lead the way the game’s played – win at the source and run at the source – has been important," the senior coach told journalists.
