The Sydney Swans Football club passes on its condolences to the Haenen family on the passing of former South Melbourne player Tony Haenen.

Haenen played 93 games for South Melbourne between 1966-1971 booting 27 goals despite playing mainly as a defender.

Big and strong he went to Port Melbourne where he played out his career before moving as captain-coach of North Launceston.

At the end of 1974, Haenen returned to Victoria where he coached Port Melbourne in the VFA, taking the team to the 1976 VFA premiership.
