2012 AFL premiers, the Sydney Swans, are set to arrive in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday, January 29 for a four-day training camp.

During the camp, the Swans will train at Coffs Harbour's BCU International Stadium, attend a Chamber of Commerce breakfast, visit local schools, and hold a free clinic for local kids.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said the Club was looking forward to the camp.

"This is a great opportunity for our players to meet all the Swans fans in the Coffs Harbour area and there are a number of public events for them to come along and be involved," he said.

"We encourage all fans to attend our open training sessions and hope to see a large number of kids at the free AFL clinic on Thursday.

"The start of the 2013 season is just around the corner and this training camp is an important part of our pre-season training program.”

The Club has a strong connection with the Coffs Harbour community with a number of players visiting during the annual AFL Community Camps.

Coffs Harbour hosted a NAB Cup match most recently in 2011, and is also home to a branch of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.

This visit is the first time the entire playing group has travelled to the area since 2007.

"We’re really looking forward to hosting the Swans training camp – and I’m sure local AFL supporters are even more excited,” said Leanne Atwal, Council’s Sports Unit Manager (Acting).

“It’s fantastic for local AFL players, fans and coaches to have the opportunity to see a premiership-winning team going through its training sessions, as well as being able to meet the players.

“AFL is definitely a growth sport in the area and we are expecting big crowds at all the planned public events.”

Swans players will host an AFL clinic for kids on Thursday, January 31 at BCU International Stadium. The event is free, but registrations are essential - click here to register.
