Young Swan Tim Membrey’s development took a step forward last weekend when he travelled with the senior team to Adelaide for the clash against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

It was the first time the 19-year-old was listed as an emergency for the Swans and while he wasn’t selected in the team’s starting 22, Membrey said his first interstate trip with the senior side was an invaluable experience.

“It was good to go with the senior guys and just experience what they do and how everyone prepares for a game and to just get a feel of what it’s like,” Membrey told sydneyswans.com.au.

“I did the warm up and did everything as if I was going to play a game, but everyone got through the warm up so I went up and sat and watched after that.”

Even though Membrey didn’t take part in the game, the weekend’s loss still had an effect on the young player who experienced the highs and lows with the senior team for the first time.

“At the start of the game they were all up and about, but, to get that result in the end, I can imagine the guys would be pretty disappointed,” he said.

“To be there and to be in the rooms after the game it was a pretty down mood, but I’m sure they’ll bounce back this weekend. They always do.”

Membrey, who hails from Traralgon in Victoria’s Gippsland region, has been in good form in the NEAFL this season, and has played as one of the team’s key forwards over the past month in the Swans reserves.

Even through he has been edging closer to a senior game, Membrey said he knows there is still plenty of room for improvement in his game.

“I want to keep playing a consistent game of footy and keep building on my efforts,” he said.

“I want to keep giving a good effort, just taking one quarter and going in and reassessing what I did well and trying to keep doing those things.”

“Playing footy at the highest level is something that I want to do, so I’m going to work very hard for that no matter what, and give myself the best opportunity to play AFL and make a good career.”
