Restricted free agent Lance Franklin has joined the Sydney Swans, with Hawthorn electing not to match the club’s offer, lodged with the AFL on Friday.

Franklin has played 182 matches for Hawthorn, winning two premierships, four All-Australian honours, and twice winning the Coleman Medal as the AFL’s leading goal kicker.

The 26-year old who joins the club on a nine-year deal, has kicked 580 career goals ranking him second among current players.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said he was pleased to welcome Franklin to the club.

“Lance is a champion player and we are really excited that he wants to continue his outstanding career at the Swans,” Longmire said.

“We understand that nine-year contracts are rare in AFL football, but so too are players the quality of Lance Franklin.

“As a Club we will always seek to improve our list and we are confident Lance will be a great fit.”

A live press conference with Franklin will be available to stream on sydneyswans.com.au tomorrow morning from 10.30am (subject to change) plus full coverage throughout the day
