There is an air of confidence about Gary Rohan this pre-season.

From his ferocity in match-based drills to his attitude and positivity around the club, the 22-year-old has clearly moved on from the dark times he endured after breaking his leg in early 2012.

Proof of just how far Rohan has come was evident at last week’s four-day training camp in Coffs Harbour.

Rohan showed off his burst of pace at C.ex Coffs International Stadium and presented as a valuable forward option between the club’s big forwards Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin.

His defensive work and second efforts were equally impressive, including a number of chase-down tackles during both the intra-club match last Wednesday and Friday’s final hit out in Coffs.

Speaking to SwansTV about his pre-season form, Rohan said he finally had full confidence in his body after spending over a year out of the game.

“I’m very confident with the leg and it feels very strong,” Rohan told SwansTV.

“The last four games I played last year for the seniors gave me real confidence in my leg.

“Even now when I play soccer with the boys and (it gets kicked), I’m not worried.

“I’m really confident in it and hopefully I can have a good year.”

The Coffs Harbour camp was a far more positive experience for Rohan, who was limited to light running at last year’s camp as part of his long recovery from his fractured tibia.

Rohan said he was excited about the prospect of being fit for round one this year, as opposed to playing the waiting game he went through during the 2013 season.

“I’m feeling really fit and a lot better than last year, obviously,” he said.

“When we were (in Coffs Harbour) last year I had just started to run laps, so I’m definitely feeling a lot better.

“Round one is on the cards, which is good.

“It’s going to be a lot better than waiting until round 21 (like) last year.

“Hopefully I’ll have no more injuries and I’ll get through the rest of the year.”

Swans forwards coach, Henry Playfair said Rohan’s pre-season form also has the football staff excited about what the young player could achieve on the park this year.

“What he’s showing on the training track this year is similar to the type of training he showed in the 2012 pre-season,” he said.

“He started that year really well, so we hope he stays out there and he stays on the park.”

With the club’s first NAB Challenge hit-out just over two weeks away, the form of the side at last week’s Coffs camp indicated that there was plenty of healthy competition for senior spots this season.

Rohan said he would have to continue to work hard to earn his place in the senior side, with a number of young players pushing to get noticed this pre-season.

“The boys are just really keen to get the season started,” he said.

“We’ve worked pretty hard in this pre-season and we’re all fit and ready to go.

“Young Harry Cunningham is ripping it up, so I’ve got to get my game on otherwise he’s going to take my spot!

“But it’s good to see that everyone is looking really good.”
