Dane Rampe and Mike Pyke will both face fitness tests ahead of Sunday’s round 12 match against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.

Rampe, who was subbed out of last Thursday’s match against Geelong with a knee complaint, is expected to resume training on Friday, while Pyke is scheduled to train on Wednesday after missing three matches with a hamstring injury.

Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said Rampe would benefit from the Swans’ 10-day break.

“He twisted his knee in the very first contest of the game and it just got sorer and sorer as the game went on and hence why we subbed him midway through the third quarter,” he said.

“His knee has pulled up with some damage behind it but he’s getting better each day.

“We just need to see how he is by the end of the week.

“He’ll need to be able to try and train Friday and we’ll make a decision then, but the longer week does help him.”

Cameron said that Pyke would also be in the mix for selection this week, with the ruckman set to complete team training on Wednesday for the first time in four weeks.

“He is close, and he’s due to train with the team tomorrow,” Cameron said on Tuesday.

“He’s been out for three-to-four weeks so we’d like him to be able to train tomorrow and Friday in order to be available.”

Second-year Swan Dean Towers will miss up to three weeks after sustaining a cracked rib in the Swans reserves NEAFL clash with the NT Thunder on Saturday.

Cameron said Towers, who has been named as emergency for the senior side on 10 occasions this year, would be assessed on a week-to-week basis.

“He got a heavy knock right on his shoulder, so he’s copped an injury to one of the upper ribs,” he said.

“He’s going to be out for, I’d say three weeks.

“We’ll reassess as things are going and as the healing is going and will make a decision on when it’s safe for him to return.”

In other injury news, Lewis Roberts-Thomson is expected to return to the field this week after being a late withdrawal from the Swans reserves match on Saturday.

“He just had a slightly sore calf,” Cameron said.

“He’s had calf problems in the past so it was determined that he would not take the field and risk it in a game.

“He’s improved since then so we’re expecting him to train later in the week and should be able to play.”
