Sam Reid said the Sydney Swans can’t afford to become complacent heading into Friday night’s round 14 clash with Richmond at the MCG.

Despite an eight-game winning streak, including a thrilling four-point win over ladder leaders Port Adelaide last weekend, Reid said the Swans were preparing for Friday night’s game with the Tigers in the same manner they prepared to take on the top side.

“I think the last seven or eight weeks we’ve been in really good form after a bit of a slow start, so it’s nice to string some wins together and get some wins over top four sides as well,” Reid said on Big Sports Breakfast on Wednesday morning.

“With this winning streak that we’re on at the moment, we’re just trying to go into every game with the same focus.

“We know what wins us games and that’s the intense pressure that we can put on our opposition when we’re playing really well.”

The 22-year-old said the Swans were also determined to improve their recent record against the Tigers at the MCG, with the club failing to post a win at Melbourne’s ‘home of football’ against Richmond since round 19, 2009.

“Our record down in Melbourne at the MCG against Richmond in recent years hasn’t been great,” Reid said.

“We’ll be looking to rectify that and have a really good week this week.”

The Swans will be without All-Australian midfielder Dan Hannebery (ankle) for Friday night’s clash, with Kurt Tippett (knee) and Ben McGlynn (thumb) also sidelined this week.

Reid said while Hannebery was a big loss, the team had faith in whoever was selected to take his place this week.

“Dan’s a pretty special player and is a midfielder who provides plenty of outside run but can also win his own ball as well,” he said.

“Whoever comes in for him, we’re confident he can fill that role.”

Reid, who has experienced a change-up in his on-field role for the Swans this year, is likely to assist in a number of positions in Friday night’s game.

After spending the majority of his career as a key forward, Reid has spent time in the ruck, up the ground and even deep in defence this season.

Reid said he expected to play a similar role in Friday night’s clash with the Tigers, and added that he was enjoying the challenge of taking on a number of different jobs for his team.

“It’s a bit of a change-up playing further up the ground and even going into the ruck at times, so it’s still something I’m getting my head around and getting used to,” he said.

“But I’m enjoying it and I think it’s something that’s going to help me and hopefully help the team as well having a versatile player who can play a range of different positions.”
