The Sydney Swans are hopeful that Kurt Tippett will miss just one match with a minor knee injury that flared up during the team’s trip to Perth.

Tippett pulled up sore at training on Friday at Patersons Stadium and scans have revealed some minor bone inflammation in the forward’s left knee.

Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, physiotherapist Tim Needham said the club’s medical team were confident that the 27-year-old would be fit to return after the bye.

“Kurt unfortunately had a little bit of knee soreness at training over in Perth,” he said.

“He’s actually come back and had a scan which has shown that he has a little bit of bone inflammation or bruising.

“We’re expecting him to miss a week and return after the bye.”

First-year Swan Zak Jones has recovered well from a head knock suffered in the first quarter of the Swans’ 28-point win over West Coast on Sunday afternoon.

Needham said Jones, who was subbed out of the match after the incident, travelled home with the team on Sunday evening and should be cleared to play this weekend.

“Zak had a head knock, which you could clearly see in the game and subsequently he had some trouble with his vision and had a little bit of blurred vision,” he said.

“He was subbed out of the game, but he’s pulled up well and should play this week subject to getting through training.”

Injured duo Dan Hannebery and Rhyce Shaw are both on track in their recovery from ankle syndesmosis injuries, with the pair increasing their fitness program this week.

Needham said the pair were both showing positive signs and were working towards a return after the bye.

“Both those guys are progressing,” he said.

“They are just fitness training at the moment and are just building up in the gym and downstairs on the cardio equipment and they are getting ready to return after the bye.”

First-year Swan Aliir Aliir has been dealt a tough blow this week with the teenager ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury.

The 19-year-old partially dislocated his shoulder in the Swans reserves clash with UWS a week ago, and will require season-ending surgery to repair the damage.

“Aliir subluxed his shoulder and an MRI scan has revealed some damage which is actually going to be surgically fixed,” Needham said.

“He’s going to require stabilisation surgery and he’ll miss the rest of the season.”

Fellow first-year player Toby Nankervis will be unavailable this weekend after fracturing his little finger in the Swans reserves clash with Ainslie at the weekend.
Needham said the 19-year-old would undergo surgery this week.

“Toby has actually fractured his little finger,” he said.

“We had an x-ray done and he’s going to require just a minor surgery to correct that.”
