Kurt Tippett has been ruled out of Saturday night’s clash with Carlton at the SCG with a minor knee injury.

The Swans key forward, who was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s match against West Coast in Perth, underwent scans on Monday which revealed bone inflammation in his left knee.

Speaking to media on Tuesday afternoon, John Longmire said he was hopeful that Tippett would miss just one match with the injury.

“Kurt’s not going to play this week,” he said.

“He’s got a little bit of bone inflammation which is obviously the reason that he’s a little bit sore still.

“He’s not going to play this week, but we’re hopeful to get him back after the bye.”

Tippett’s setback comes three weeks after he underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight tear in his meniscus.

The 27-year-old missed the Swans’ fixtures with Port Adelaide and Richmond, before returning in round 15 when the Swans beat GWS at the SCG.

Despite being subbed out of the GWS match late in the game, Longmire said Tippett’s latest concern came after the club’s final training session in Perth last Friday afternoon.

“When he got on the plane (to Perth) we fully expected him to play,” he said.

“He pulled up well from the (GWS) game and ran here on Wednesday and ran well.

“It was just when he started training, whether or not it was a flow on from the game or from running around on the Wednesday, his knee was a bit sore.

“He’s got a bit of inflammation, which means it will take another week or two to settle down.”

The coach said Tippett was disappointed with his latest setback, but added that the club’s medical staff was confident that he would be fit to return for the Swans’ clash with Hawthorn at the MCG in the second-half of the split round 18.

“I’m sure he’s disappointed and wants to keep playing, just as we are,” he said.

“We got him going and he really contributed, which he always does, and he is a very important player for us.

“For him to take another step back, and with him not getting another game under his belt, it is disappointing for him.

“But we’ll deal with that and he’ll deal with that and we’ll have him back after the bye hopefully.”

Longmire confirmed that there were no other injury concerns out of Sunday’s match, with first-year Swan Zak Jones expected to be fit to play after suffering a knock to the head early in the match.

“He pulled up well after the game and he travelled back with us,” he said.

“He’s fine today and at this stage we’d expect him to play unless anything comes up during the week that we’re unaware of at the moment.”
