The Sydney Swans have placed Tom Derickx on the long-term injury list as the ruckman continues to battle a hamstring tear.

The 26-year-old, who sustained the injury ahead of the club’s round 17 clash with Carlton, was expected to be sidelined for two-to-three weeks, but has since experienced a setback.

Rookies Sam Naismith and Shane Biggs have both been elevated to the senior list in place of Derickx and Aliir Aliir (shoulder), who had previously been placed on the long-term injury list.

A third-year rookie, Biggs, who turned 23 yesterday, has been a stand-out for the Swans reserves this season. Dynamic both off the half-back line and in the midfield, he has averaged more than 35 possessions across his last six matches.

205-centimetre Naismith, who arrived at the club via pick 59 in the 2013 Rookie Draft, has also been an important contributor for the Swans reserves, and was named best on ground in the team’s recent round 15 clash with Belconnen.
