Sydney Swans chairman Andrew Pridham has described the 2015 Number One Ticket Holder, Duncan McPherson, as being “as close to royalty as you can get”.

The long-time Swans member, who will step into the job in place of 2014 Number One Ticket Holders Peter and Maree Thomas, was awarded an Order of Australia in 2014 for his outstanding work promoting and raising funds for ovarian cancer and for his services to the harness racing industry.

Five years ago McPherson sadly lost his wife Lyn to ovarian cancer and has made it his mission since to do whatever he can to help other families in need.

“It’s something very dear to my heart and something we need to promote more in Australia,” McPherson said.

A loving father of three children, Hamish 27, Tom 25 and Tess 22, McPherson’s other true passion is the red and white.

McPherson’s ties to the Swans go back to the South Melbourne days when his grandparents owned a milk bar close to where the team used to train.

“My grandmother actually used to tell me she made milkshakes for Bob (Skilton) when he finished training, he’d come over and grab a chocolate milkshake on his way home,” he said.

“I guess it was clear from a very early age who I was going to barrack for.”

An inaugural member of the Melbourne Blood Brothers and also a member of John’s Reds and Whites, McPherson has devoted his time to support the Swans over the years.

At the start of 2005, McPherson even jumped on the phones along with a few other Blood Brothers to ring lapsed members to encourage them to renew their membership for the season.

Those who signed up were extremely fortunate when the season came to a glorious close at the MCG on Grand Final day.

A regular attendee at club functions and events over the years, McPherson also owns a stud farm in central Victoria, has a building business called 2Construct and is on the board of a number of organisations.

McPherson said he was “humbled” to be the number one ticket holder for season 2015 and will continue to do whatever he can to support and promote his beloved football club and to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer among other causes close to his heart.
