Jason has been a Director of the Sydney Swans since 2007 and is currently Chairman of the highly successful business-focused supporter group, Centre Circle, and a Director of the Sydney Swans Foundation.

Sydney Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham, paid tribute to Jason and congratulated him on his appointment to the AFL Commission.

"Jason's contribution to the Sydney Swans as a player and Director is incalculable. He is blessed with a unique talent of understanding and managing the complexity of all matters football, both on and off the field, with ease," he said

"I am confident that Jason will provide great strength to the AFL Commission and assist it in undertaking its vital and delicate role in guiding and growing AFL in the interests of all stakeholders of our great game,” Pridham said.

Jason will step down as a Director of Sydney Swans Limited and as Chairman of Centre Circle when his appointment to the AFL Commission is formalised.

"It is our intention to undertake a process in the new year to identify replacements for Jason in these important roles,” Pridham said.

“In particular it is our desire to identify someone with relevant football experience to join the Sydney Swans Board with a specific focus on being the day-to-day conduit between the Board and General Manager – Football Tom Harley and senior coach John Longmire.”

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said he wished to thank Ball for all of his support.

“Jason has been a wonderful support to me as senior coach and like everyone associated with the Swans, I am certain he will be an outstanding addition to the AFL Commission,” Longmire said.

“He is passionate about the game, about the players, and has a great understanding of how modern football is played.”
