Midfielder Dan Hannebery continued his explosive start to the season with a best on ground performance against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

Hannebery won the Brett Kirk medal for best on ground after finishing the game with 35 disposals and a goal in a hard fought contest.

The 24-year-old said he was happy with not only his start to the season but that of the entire midfield group.

“Like a lot of our midfielders it is nice to be able to play some consistent footy and there is a group of four or five in there that want to make sure we set the tone,” Hannebery said at Sunday’s recovery session.

“We just try to go about our business every week and play consistent football.

“We are really pleased as a midfield group over the last three or four weeks that we have been able to stick to our structure.

“We are happy to have been able to play the way we have wanted to play so it is really important we try to do that for the majority of the year.”

The challenge doesn’t get any easier for the Swans as they prepare for a trip to Perth to take on the Fremantle Dockers on ANZAC Day.

Hannebery is fully aware of the challenge that awaits the midfield group against some of the most elite midfielders in the league.

“I would say that Fyfe is probably the best player in the game, Mundy is not far behind him and they have Lachie Neale who is an absolute gun as well,” he said.

“Add in Barlow and a few other guys and they have probably one of the best midfields in the competition so it is a massive challenge for us.

“We are really looking forward to it and hopefully we can put in a really good performance.”
