Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy holds no secrets as to what underpins his high level of consistency aside from simply “knowing what works” in executing his best football.

Kennedy, speaking to media on Thursday ahead of the Swans’ Round 5 encounter with the Western Bulldogs, has again produced outstanding form which has him revered among the competition's elite midfielders.

The 27-year-old is in career-best touch, averaging 28 disposals in the opening four rounds, one possession more than this time last season which was arguably the best of his eight years in the system.

There’s no special recipe or secrets to his form, rather an inner understanding on what works for him (and what doesn’t) and what’s required to stay on that level.

“It’s hard to put your finger on,” Kennedy said.

“I think it’s just knowing what I need to do, what gets me going, making sure my body is right, whether I need to do a bit more or a bit less and where my focus areas need to be to have a good game.

“I think it’s different for everyone, what makes them a good player, so you just need to focus on the things you believe will help you bring your best each weekend.”

Another Swan also enjoying a consistent start to 2015 is fellow on-baller Dan Hannebery.

Hannebery is averaging 30 possessions, almost half of which have been contested, to spearhead the Swans’ 3-1 record.

Kennedy couldn’t speak highly enough of his teammate and believes Hannebery’s output has been just reward for the power of work exuded over the pre-season.

“Hopefully he can keep it going as he’s one of our better players at the moment,” Kennedy said.

“Teams will have to look at shutting him down as he’s also hitting the scoreboard as well and hurting teams that way.

“He has set a great example for everyone else at the club.”

Having next to no off-field distractions would also help Kennedy’s on-field form, a fact which has been turned upside down (in a good way) in the recent arrival of his first child.

There haven’t been too many sleepless nights (yet) with Kennedy assured fatherhood, while tough, will only impact his football for the better.

“It has been an amazing week,” Kennedy said.

“I’m getting a lot of support from obviously Anna and her mum, the football club has been great. I’m just grateful for all that support, it’s just been amazing.”

Kennedy joined teammates for the squad’s final training session on a wet SCG turf in preparation for Saturday’s hit out with the Bulldogs.
