After gaining a small taste for AFL football in 2014, Swans defender Zak Jones is hungry for more.

Jones is one of two Swans to sign new deals, extending his tenure at the red and white for at least two more years.

His signature comes just days after fellow Dane Rampe agreed to terms on a new four-year contract.

Speaking to SwansTV, Jones said committing to the Swans until at least the end of 2017 was an easy decision and a weight of his shoulders.

“The club dealt with it really well and so did my manager,” Jones said.

“The process was quick, I think it took about a week, which was good as all I wanted to do was focus on my year ahead and get back to playing some senior football.”

Jones managed to break into the Swans’ near impenetrable line up to string together three consecutive games after arriving via a first-round pick in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

The run was unfortunately cut short for a period after Jones suffered a knock and subsequent concussion which, in turn, transformed into an Achilles problem.

He returned to feature in the Swans’ final home and away match against Richmond.

Yet to be selected for the senior side in 2015, Jones’ form in the NEAFL would have no doubt caught the attention of the match committee having been named in the Swans’ best in at least four of the first six rounds.

From the start of pre-season to now, Jones’ focus has been to strive for a high level of consistency and to break back into the senior side.

No mean feat as Jones has recently discovered.

“It’s probably the hardest thing right now,” he said on cracking into a settled and match-winning senior line up.

“But saying that it’s a good thing because you have everyone in front of you giving feedback and pushing you in the right direction.

“It’s my number one priority right now. I have that taste for senior football now and all I want to do is play.”
