Sydney Swans coach John Longmire is pleased with the progress of his side nine rounds into the home and away season.

The Swans currently sit second on the ladder with seven wins and two losses including four consecutive wins.

Longmire implored his side to continue their hard work that has seen them have a strong start to the season.

“We are happy with the wins, it is a winning business and we have been competitive for the last month,” Longmire said.

“It is a tight competition and we just need to keep going, it is pretty simple.

“We need to keep playing the sort of footy we want to play, preparing well and keep getting after the opposition no matter who we play.

“That is what we need to try and do every week and that will be our aim again next week, nothing changes.”

The Swans will travel to Gold Coast next week to take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium buoyed by the form of star forward Lance Franklin.

After going goalless in the club’s win over Hawthorn Franklin returned to the scoreboard on Friday night booting seven goals against Carlton.

“He had the kicking boots on, he was good particularly early to kick three in the first quarter,” Longmire said.

“He certainly played well, he has always been good both sides of the ball in terms of putting pressure on and then tonight to be able to finish off his work and get the seven goals was really impressive.

“He was obviously a critical player tonight for us.”
