Premiership defender Heath Grundy has agreed to a new deal with the Sydney Swans.

Grundy, who was due to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end, has recommitted for a further three years.

A genuine love for the Swans and an exciting future made the decision an easy one for former South Australian to make.

"It's really exciting, I love playing for the Club and my wife and I are very settled here," Grundy said.

"I have never really contemplated playing anywhere else. We've obviously built a successful environment having played finals now for quite some time.

"We have an exciting list so the future is looking really bright and that's something I want to be a part of."

A very popular character around the football club, the 29-year-old has become an integral member of the Swans' back six having missed only one game since the 2012 premiership, which General Manager of Football Tom Harley says is a testament to the veteran's durability over his decade-long career at the Club.

"We're really pleased we can lock him into that backline for another three years," Harley said.

"Heath has showed great resilience and perseverance since his elevation from our rookie list in 2005. He has been an important part of our backline and was a vital cog in our 2012 Premiership.

"We believe that Heath is still improving and is playing some great footy at the moment...he's arguably in career-best form right now."

Grundy has played 174 matches since his debut back in Round 16, 2006.
