We take a look at some of the key take outs from coach John Longmire’s weekly press conference on Monday afternoon at the SCG.

Franklin suspension for bumping

“If you bump you do it at your peril. I’m on the record as saying that you put yourself at risk if you decide to bump, and you need to make sure you take that out of it. They’re human, they get it wrong sometimes, and that’s what happened in this case.”

Coverage of Adam Goodes incident

“We think, as a club, that the way that was highlighted was disgraceful. You guys make your own decisions but make them on an informed basis. When you look at the whole piece of play in its entirety whilst the game is unfolding, rather than a particular still shot in a moment in time; I think you have a more balanced view of it. I just encourage people to do that.”

Craig Bird and Dan Robinson injuries in NEAFL

“Fortunately they’re not too bad. They’re not as bad as we first though after the game, we suspected both might have been missing for a number of weeks. Bird has an AC joint injury, he probably won’t play this week but he’s a chance to play next week which is a good result. Robinson, we were fearful he cracked his ankle but scans have shown he is fine.”

Potential for Goodes to play a more central role forward

“Adam Goodes has played in that front half before and played a lot of footy in that front half. Adam is more than capable, his role has changed over the years as he has got a bit older and the team has evolved but he is also capable of playing in a few different roles.”

Sam Reid as a forward option

“Sam’s obviously played centre half-forward for us for a fair bit of time since he’s been at the Swans. We know he’s capable of being in our front half, he’s done it before and I’m sure if he needed too, and we went that way, he could go forward again.”
