In an AFL career which has given so much already, Adam Goodes reaches another significant milestone on Saturday night.
Goodes will move to ninth on the all-time AFL/VFL games record list, drawing equal with former Western Bulldogs skipper Brad Johnson on 364 matches.
The 35-year-old, who is showing no signs of slowing down, becomes one of three current day players to feature in the top 10 behind evergreens Essendon’s Dustin Fletcher (400) and North Melbourne’s Brent Harvey (398).
After Saturday night’s clash with Hawthorn, Goodes will then set his sights on Footscray and Fitzroy legend Bernie Quinlan’s record of 366 matches who was the competition’s second highest games record holder behind the then benchmark set by Richmond’s Kevin Bartlett (403).
Topping the list is Hawthorn’s Michael Tuck who, after retiring in 1991 at the age of 38, set an all-time high of 426 matches.
If Goodes managed to play every game for the rest of the home and away season, and the Swans happen to feature in four finals matches, he would tick off 375 games which would equal Carlton’s Craig Bradley.
And form suggests Goodes could play on in 2016 which would mean the dual Brownlow Medallist, five-time All-Australian and dual premiership player could be elevated as high as 5th.
An uninterrupted season of 22 games plus four finals could see Goodes leapfrog Essendon’s Simon Madden (378) and St. Kilda’s Robert Harvey (383).
