Rebounding half-back Dane Rampe thinks the Swans have lacked mojo over the past month of football and believes a genuine opportunity to recapture that flair presents itself in Friday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood.

Rampe and the rest of the defensive unit face a talented Collingwood forward line which was last week boosted by the return of Ben Reid and looks to be further bolstered by the likely return of full-forward Travis Cloke.

Speaking to SwansTV on Wednesday, Rampe was confident the defensive half can account for the Pies’ keys along with their smaller but equally damaging smalls.

“I think the plan first and foremost is to win our one on ones,” Rampe said.

“If Cloke does come back in then it’ll be important for us to come off our man and help Teddy (Ted Richards) out. We were poor in that area against Hawkins last weekend so we’ll look to focus in on.

“And they’ve got a number of good small forwards in Alex Fasolo and Jamie Elliott so it’s a pretty dangerous forward line. We’ve got to be on, win our one on ones and, I guess, the biggest thing is help our mates out.”

Rampe, who is coming off a 18-posession game against Geelong, believes the Swans’ up and down form of late comes down to the group not playing with their usual vivacity everyone has come to know and expect.

With a top four spot on the line and in front of a packed SCG house, Rampe stated there could be no better time for the group to reaffirm its top four credentials.

“It’s always a big occasion so I’m really looking forward to it,” Ramp said.

“Especially after the last few weeks we really have to put our best foot forward, it’s a really big opportunity on a big stage.

“We need to get our mojo back, we’ve been a bit flat for whatever reason and we’ve got this weekend and the next month to rectify it.”

PREVIEW: Swans vs Magpies

Collingwood boasts a solid record in Sydney having won 13 of the past 15 encounters, but hasn’t played at the SCG since 2000. Before that, the Swans were the dominant side (six wins from seven matches from 1994-1999).

Despite many believing the Swans are a much better side at the SCG, Rampe refused to buy into that talk.

“I don’t think Horse (John Longmire) would like us buying into that too much,” Rampe added.

“We’re just after a good performance.”
