George Hewett and Harry Marsh have capped off superb seasons by earning a spot in the NEAFL Team of the Year.
Announced at NEAFL MVP Awards Ceremony in Brisbane on Sunday, Hewett and Marsh were judged among the best 22 players in the competition with Marsh named in the back pocket while Hewett was placed on the interchange bench.
Marsh, 21, was moved to defensive half this season to great effect with the 188cm backman providing plenty of drive out of defence averaging 15 disposals a game at 80 percent efficiency.
Recruited from WA via a second-round selection in the 2012 National Draft, Marsh has spent three seasons on the senior list and will be pushing hard for an AFL debut in 2016.
“It’s a good achievement something I’m pretty proud of,” Marsh said.
“The most important thing was to have a pretty consistent year and this award represents that so I’m pretty happy.
“I really enjoyed my transition into a defender this season…I think I play better across half-back and I’m happy to play on whatever type whether it’s a third tall or small forward.”
On the back of a strong season in the NEAFL last season, Hewett took his game to another level this year averaging 26 possessions, eight clearances and six tackles per game.

“But at the same time individual awards are not something you think about too much. We’ve got finals coming up so all our focus in on Saturday.”
In an award won by Sydney University’s Tom Young, Marsh was the Swans’ best placed vote getter in the NEAFL MVP Award finishing in equal 12th on 36 votes.
Hewett (25 votes), Dan Robinson (23), Craig Bird (20) and Dean Towers (20) were the Swans other prominent vote getters.
The NEAFL Swans take on Aspley in a cut-throat semi-final clash in Brisbane on Saturday.
