The unpopular green and red vests will no longer have a place at AFL games under changes announced of clubs on Thursday.

From next season onwards teams will return to having four interchange players, a sight not seen since the substitute was introduced in 2011.

The rule has been the subject of heavy debate with the abolishment coming on the back of feedback from players.

It has also been announced that the interchange cap will be slashed from 120 to 90 as part of the league's plans to curb on-field congestion.

Clubs will be allowed to make changes at quarter breaks while forced changes such as the blood rule, concussion assessment and stretcher changes will not be counted as part of the rotations.

If stats serve us correctly Craig Bird, Jake Lloyd and Brandon Jack have worn the green vest 11 times in all which is more than any Swan in the history of the rule while Harry Cunningham leads this year's race having been the starting sub four times.

Lance Franklin has never been used as a starting sub and has been subbed off only twice in Swans colours including last week, much to the star forward's displeasure.
