“Probably one of the most resilient players I’ve ever met in my life,” – that’s how Swans coach John Longmire views young gun Alex Johnson.

The 23-year-old defender hasn’t played since Sydney’s 2012 premiership, after a series of setbacks with an injured knee.

After four knee reconstructions and three seasons on the sidelines, Johnson is waiting on medical advice to determine his next course of action.

But Longmire says that hasn’t stopped the No. 2 from giving his all for the club he loves.

“He’s so mentally strong, but this is no doubt testing for him,” Longmire told radio station SEN on Tuesday.

“This is as testing as it gets for a footballer: to be coming up to the peak of your powers at a young age and to continually have these hurdles.

“But he was coaching our Academy last night and really putting in around the footy club – he’s been terrific around the place.

“It’s a real credit to him the way he’s attacked it and keeps bouncing back.”

Since being recruited to the Swans with a third round selection in the 2010 National Draft, Johnson has played 45 AFL games including a premiership. In 2012 he also earned the Swans Rising Star Award.

Johnson will join teammates for this week's pre-season training camp in Coffs Harbour.
