Adam Goodes will head back overseas in the coming months to enjoy a European summer as he begins to enjoy life after football.
The 36-year-old retired with little fanfare at the end of the 2015 season putting an end to a remarkable career spanning 372 games.
Goodes spent time in the USA during the off-season as he took an extended break to decide on what he would do now his football career had finished.
“Obviously I have a fair bit of time to myself now and don’t have the anxiety of getting up and worrying about pre-season training,” Goodes told SwansTV.
“I am doing all the things I had previously been doing just minus the football.
“I am already planning another holiday this year so I am just doing the things that I wasn’t able to do whilst playing football.
“For me it is just taking my time to pick and choose what I want to do but I definitely want to stay here in Sydney.”
The dual Brownlow Medallist celebrated his birthday in January with a once in a lifetime experience.
“I jumped out of a plane for my birthday in January so that was pretty cool,” he said.
“I have just been doing the things that I really sacrificed for 18 years of my life.
“They were great sacrifices to make because I wanted to make the most of my footy career.”
Goodes is looking forward to taking a break in the middle of the year to soak up some sunshine in Europe.
“My next holiday destination is a European summer; I have never had the time off in the middle of the year before,” he said.
“I am looking forward to sitting on a beach somewhere in Europe and getting a few rays.”
Sydney Swans fans will have the chance to farewell Goodes alongside retiring ruckman Mike Pyke at the club’s Round 3 match against Greater Western Sydney at the SCG on Saturday 9 April.
