Sydney Swans defender Alex Johnson has been placed on the Club’s long-term injury list as he prepares for further surgery on his injured knee.

Swans General Manager of Football Tom Harley says the 24-year-old is on track for surgery in late May.

“Alex's resilience has been extraordinary,” Harley said.

“He has had some surgery in the past couple of weeks to prepare himself for his fifth knee reconstruction.

“We won’t replace him immediately but it does provide us the opportunity to elevate one of our rookie-listed players when warranted.”

Johnson will undergo a traditional reconstruction before beginning his rehabilitation, which will include assisting Rhyce Shaw and Nick Davis in a coaching role with the NEAFL side.

“We will involve him as much as he wants to be involved because he is such an asset and great person to have around the Club,” Harley said.
