Sydney Swans coach John Longmire spoke to the media ahead of our Round 7 clash against Essendon at the SCG on Saturday.

We take a look at some of the key quotes from the coach leading into this weekend’s match.

Stretcher incident against Brisbane
“Callum went over and hyperextended his knee, we thought he had done a serious knee injury and the stretcher was called as the umpire blew the whistle. It's really difficult (for an opposition coach) after a game to know exactly what happened. It's pretty clear, Callum (Sinclair) went over and hyper-extended his knee and we thought he'd done a pretty serious knee injury. The stretcher was called and the umpire blew the whistle. Callum had a scan yesterday, but you don't know that at the time. It's very difficult to get everything right immediately after the game so we move on from that pretty quickly.”

Gary Rohan’s progress
“Our reserves had another really good win and he got through that game, played 80 minutes of footy and played well. It is just a matter of us having a few good players in our senior team and reserves in good form so it is a matter of once we get down to match committee tomorrow. There is nothing set in stone just yet. We know he gives us absolute run and hardness so we would like to get him in the team as soon as we can. Whether that is this week or not we haven’t made that decision yet.”

Callum Sinclair’s knee injury
“Fortunately there is no ligament damage. There is a bit of bone bruising so we will see how he goes on Thursday at training. If he is able to get through training on Thursday he will be selected.”

Nick Smith injury update
He woke up with a sore knee the morning of the game. We had a kick the day before where he felt something but not too bad. He felt something the morning of the game and was ruled out. We would expect him to be available for training this week to train and if he gets through that he will play. At this point there is no serious damage to it, he had a couple of days off for it to settle down and we are hopeful he will be available for this week.

GWS having access to recruit from Wimmera region
“I worry about the Swans. But what I will say in a general sense is that it is a great problem to have. To have talent coming out of the northern states for the game. If that is the biggest problem in the game then I don’t think it is too bad.”

Taking on Essendon this weekend
“If you look at the names on their board they've got quite a bit of experience. They've actually had the third highest disposals in the competition this year so they're getting plenty of the footy. (David) Zaharakis has had a terrific year, we know that Joe Daniher can really hit the scoreboard heavily, so we're preparing for their best as we always do. They had a real scrap with Carlton on the weekend and were in front at three-quarter time so they did a few things well.”
