Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh is adamant his side will be up for the challenge when they face reigning premier Hawthorn on Friday night.

The Swans will return to the MCG for a second straight week after going down to Richmond by one point on Saturday.

McVeigh urged his side to learn from the mistakes made in that loss but not dwell on the result.

“We have to dust ourselves off pretty quickly because we have a short turn around,” McVeigh said at Melbourne Airport on Sunday.

“We will be back to Melbourne on the MCG again, which is a great thing for us because we love playing there.

“It will be a huge challenge against the Hawks, and we have had some big battles with them over the years, so we look forward to it.”

Lance Franklin (five goals) and Dan Hannebery (34 disposals and two goals) were the standout contributors for the Swans.

Franklin has now booted 29 goals from the first seven matches of the season – his best start to a season since 2008.

McVeigh said the star forward was in the best form he has been in since joining the Swans at the start of the 2014 season.

“He has had some unbelievable years but his high level of performance and the way he goes about it has been unbelievable this year,” McVeigh said.

“It is great to see and it is great to watch.”

Midfielder Josh Kennedy will be in line for a return to take on the Hawks after being a late withdrawal due to a minor hamstring strain against Richmond.
