Sydney Swans young gun George Hewett has recommitted to the Club for a further two seasons.

The new deal will see the 20-year-old remain in red and white until at least the end of the 2018 season.

Recruited with draft pick 32 in 2013, Hewett was the youngest player taken in his draft year. Hailing from South Australia, Hewett played with North Adelaide before being drafted by the Swans.

After spending the first two seasons on the Swans list biding his time in the NEAFL, the talented youngster was given an opportunity in Round 1 this year and instantly impressed.

Hewett has gone on to play nine matches this season which included a three-goal first quarter performance in Round 6 and a career-high 18 disposals in the Club’s MCG win against the Hawks.

Swans General Manager of Football Tom Harley says it’s great to have the up-and-coming midfielder sign on for two years.

“We are extremely excited to have George commit to the club for another two years,” Harley said.

“George is an outstanding young man who has patiently worked on his game to the point of being a trusted member of the senior squad.

“He has forced his way into the team this year and we look forward to watching George’s career develop further.”

Hewett joins Kieren Jack, Nick Smith, Luke Parker, Jeremy Laidler, Harry Cunningham and Aliir Aliir in recommitting to the Swans this season.
