The Sydney Swans Football Club passes on its condolences to the Williams family on the passing of Team of the Century member, Billy Williams.

Swans CEO and Managing Director Andrew Ireland said Williams will be fondly remembered.

“It’s always sad to lose a great player such as Billy Williams, who was a loyal and passionate Swans supporter,” Ireland said.

“One of my fondest memories was of Billy breaking into a rendition of ‘Cheer, cheer’ when he was inducted into the Team of the Century.

“Billy was a true Swans champion and I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family.”

A brilliant goal kicking rover he booted 180 goals throughout his career and played in the infamous ‘bloodbath’ grand final in his first season of senior football.

He represented Victoria nine times, was Souths leading goal kicker in 1947 and 1951 and won the club’s best and fairest in 1946, 1947 and 1950.

Sydney Swans players will wear black arm bands in honour of Billy during Friday night’s clash against Geelong.
