The Sydney Swans have made four changes for Saturday's clash against Carlton.

Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh (groin), Zak Jones (ankle), Ben McGlynn (omitted) and Ted Richards (omitted) are out of the side that lost to Hawthorn last week.

Jordan Foote gets his first crack at senior football after being named alongside Isaac Heeney, Harry Cunningham and Xavier Richards as the four inclusions for the Round 18 encounter at the SCG.

Foote, 20, a product of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, will be the Swans' seventh debutant of season 2016.

Recruited in the 2014 Rookie Draft, the nuggety midfielder has reached a high level of consistency for the NEAFL Swans and was subsequently rewarded with senior elevation last week.

Meanwhile, Richards will play his third game since making his debut in 2013 but will find himself lining up in a different part of the ground this time around.

So used to playing as a key defender, Longmire confirmed Richards would start forward on the back of kicking 26 goals in the past six rounds for the NEAFL Swans.

“He can’t do much more than what he's been doing,” Longmire said of Richards.

“We had a chat to him at the halfway point of the year and decided to give him a go forward and he's been fantastic.

“He's still learning the craft but he's extremely quick, tall and a good target in our front half.”

Heeney and Cunningham will also return after a strong performances in the NEAFL.

“Isaac was good last week and we know Harry has been good for a few weeks now,” Longmire added.

“Those boys come back in as we know they can play at the level so they get another opportunity which is terrific.”

Longmire said his side was prepared for a bruising encounter against the Blues.

“Carlton are a good side who were able to push West Coast all the way last week as we saw in the last quarter,” he said.

“They have a lot more experience than what people give them credit for and they have some really good players in the middle of the ground.”

“We expect a real battle and we will have to be really good to win.”

Brandon Jack, Toby Nankervis and Tyrone Leonardis have been named as emergencies.
