Up and coming Sydney Swans star Isaac Heeney returned home to the Hunter Valley this week as part of the 2017 Australia Post AFL Community Camp.

Heeney and teammates Jordan Dawson and Colin O’Riordan had a busy schedule visiting schools throughout the Hunter, including a top priority visit to Heeney’s old high school, All Saints College, St Peter’s campus in Maitland.

As a product of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, pursuing AFL was a big commitment for a young Novocastrian, and Heeney is thankful to have attended such a supportive school.

“I would have half a day off every week to travel to Sydney,” Heeney told students.

“It was definitely tough but it was a fantastic opportunity.”

The visit was a great way to complement what has been a rewarding pre-season for Heeney.

“I haven’t actually had a full pre-season until this year so it’s exciting to know that I can get so many kilometres under my belt,” he said.

“I’m feeling fit and strong and hopefully I can run out a good full year.”

Heeney is hopeful for a consistent spot in the midfield this season and is looking forward to getting stuck into the games.

“I feel like I’m training well and hopefully pushing for that midfield spot. That’s what I’d like to do but just how much I’ll be there I’m not sure,” he said.

“I’ll be playing in the intra-club this Friday and hopefully I should play in the midfield there and be valuable up forward as well.”

The Sydney Swans intra-club match will be held at Henson Park at 5.30pm this Friday 10 February. Gates will open at 4.30pm and entry to the ground is free, click here for more information.
