Lance Franklin was at his damaging best in Friday night’s Marn Grook clash with Hawthorn, booting five memorable goals and picking up the Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal as the player judged best on ground.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough to get the four points, with Hawks skipper Jarryd Roughead sealing the win for the visitors in the closing stages of the match.

Sydney No. 67 for the night – Franklin swapped his traditional No. 23 guernsey to honour the 50-year anniversary of the 1967 referendum – did, however, catch the attention of the coaches, picking up a further nine votes in this year’s AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year Award.

Franklin shared top honours with former teammate Shaun Burgoyne (nine votes) who was instrumental in the away team’s victory, collecting 26 possessions and kicking two goals.

Swans pair Josh Kennedy (one vote) and Dan Hannebery (one) were also recognised for their efforts which saw them rack up a combined 68 possessions, nine tackles and a goal.

Rounding out the votes were Hawks trio Liam Shiels (five votes), Luke Hodge (three) and Isaac Smith (two).
