In summation...

Leading through his actions, both on and off the field, Josh Kennedy took his standing to a new level in 2017 after having the captaincy thrust upon him at the start of the season.

The impact of the first-year captain in leading his side to become the first in history to make finals from a 0-6 start cannot be underestimated.

Kennedy was once again the clearance king this season working hard at the coalface of the contest to win the footy and send it to his side’s advantage, finishing the season with an average of 7 clearances a match.

He missed three games with a niggling hamstring injury during the season, giving the 29-year-old a different perspective on the game sitting alongside John Longmire in the coaches’ box.

The star midfielder returned in Round 22 after a two-game lay off to finish the season as strong as any against arguably the best midfield in the competition in Adelaide.

He was given the ultimate praise from his teammates at the Club Champion Dinner when he was awarded the Paul Kelly Players’ Player award as voted on by his peers.
