If the 2017 AFL National Draft was tomorrow, Sydney’s recruitment and list strategy manager Kinnear Beatson believes the Swans would be well-equipped to land their next rising star.

The competition's youngest and brightest will gather at Olympic Park next week, where the stars of tomorrow will eagerly await their name being called to discover where they will begin their AFL journey.

Beatson and fellow Swans recruiters Michael Agresta and Ross Monaghan have been meeting with coaching staff this week, as they continue sifting through hours of vision and discussing draft prospects.

Ahead of his 11th National Draft, Beatson is confident the Swans' strategy will go a long way to strengthening the list.

"We're pretty right to go," Beatson told SwansTV.

"As of the end of (Thursday) we're pretty settled...there's a few bits and pieces to come back regarding medicals which will be concluded (Friday) at AFL House.

"We work off our list demographics chart every year; the coaches and the list management committee are continually looking at where our strengths and weaknesses lie in relation to positions and age groups.

"We've got some positions in mind that we need to improve. A bit of that is leg speed, potentially a key forward down the track, so they're some of the key focuses for us."

Armed with one first-round selection (pick 14), the Sydney Swans will enter the draft a little later than most clubs, and also hold picks 33 and 51.

Beatson has more faith in this year's crop than other list managers and is convinced there'll be plenty on offer when the Swans are called forward to reveal their selections.

"It's a bit cliché but we'll pick the best player available," Beatson added.

"We'll have our plan in place and we'll make our decision whether it’s a key position player, a midfielder or a running back at that time, depending on who's available.

“Just looking at the vision of the players we have in mind, the coaches believe there’s plenty of good talent out there.”
