Sydney Swans stalwart Jake Lloyd will play on in 2027, after reaching a trigger in his contract to go into a 15th AFL season.
Lloyd, who has played 292 AFL games, is a story of longevity and persistence having been drafted as a rookie back in 2012.
The 32-year-old has been one of the Swans’ most consistent performers over his career, claiming two Bob Skilton Medals along the way (2018, 2020).
Earlier this season, Lloyd was awarded AFL Life Membership having notched up 300 games at the top level which included home and away matches, official pre-season games and representative duties.
Sydney Swans Executive GM AFL Football, Leon Cameron said he was pleased Jake would play on in 2027.
“For a long time, Lloydy has been one of our most respected and resilient players, so for him to reach this trigger in his contract is testament to his work ethic and professionalism,” Cameron said.
“He is a very important member of the team given his extensive leadership qualities and ability to read the game. I’m looking forward to seeing what Jake can bring to the club in 2027.”
Lloyd said he’s thrilled to play on again in 2027.
“It’s obviously a great feeling, I’m super stoked to be hanging around next year,” Lloyd said.
“When you get to this stage of your career sometimes these things can linger into the off-season so it’s a great feeling to hit that now and now I can put my attention into finishing the home and away season really strongly and then looking forward to finals.
“It means everything to me to be a one club player is so special, they gave me my opportunity 14 years ago. They’ve given me this life, and I’ve created this little family up here in Sydney so to share that with my kids is really special, so it’s awesome to go around again.”
