The Sydney Swans have strengthened their position at next month’s AFL draft by trading draft selection 13 for Carlton’s picks 26 and 28 and Adelaide’s selection 40.

The acquisition of the three draft selections will assist Sydney to match a potential bid for QBE Sydney Swans Academy prospect Nick Blakey.

Selection 13 is currently worth 1212 points, while picks 26, 28 and 40 are worth a combined 1835 points – equating to a traditional pick six in the AFL Draft.

Sydney Swans Head of Football Tom Harley says it’s a good outcome for the Club.

“We’re rapt with today’s trade that will see us enter next month’s AFL draft in a much stronger position,” Harley said.

“We have essentially secured an additional 600 draft points, which we can then use to move ourselves up the draft order and secure potential QBE Sydney Swans Academy players.”

The trade formed part of a three-way deal between Sydney, Carlton and Adelaide, which saw Carlton receive Mitch McGovern and Adelaide’s 2019 third round pick, while the Crows got pick 13, SANFL player Shane McAdam and Carlton’s 2019 fifth round pick.

The Swans will now enter next month’s AFL draft with picks 26, 28, 30, 35, 40, 66 and 84.
