The performance of veteran defender Heath Grundy has earned him a place in the Round 23 AFL Team of the Week alongside teammate Lance Franklin.

Grundy was superb in Saturday’s big win over Carlton as he helped keep Levi Casboult and Charlie Casboult in check.

The 30-year-old defender who escaped a sanction from the Match Review Panel for his hit on Casboult was named at centre half back in the weekly side.

Franklin’s performance against the Blues earned him the position at full forward.

In one of the best individual performances in recent times the star forward booted ten goals to seal his sides victory and seal a fourth Coleman Medal.

See below the reasons behind the selection of the two Swans in the side.

HEATH GRUNDY (Sydney Swans): Teamed up with Dane Rampe and Nick Smith to take control of the Blues' forward line, and kept the effectiveness of Levi Casboult and Charlie Curnow well down. Also took eight marks and had 22 touches, as well as 14 intercept possessions

LANCE FRANKLIN (Sydney Swans): Claimed his fourth Coleman Medal after a huge haul of 10 goals saw him surge up the leaderboard and overtake Josh Kennedy. If his bag of majors wasn't enough, the powerful forward also collected 25 disposals and took 10 marks in a best-on-ground performance.
