We take a closer look at some of the potential first round draftees ahead of the National Draft to be held in Sydney on November 25.

The Club will enter the National Draft with live selections at pick 9, 19, 46 and 49.

The following are four of the potential draft prospects predicted by experts to go within the first round.

Andrew McGrath – Sandringham Dragons / Vic Metro
Height: 179cm
Weight: 75kg
Position: Midfielder

Expected to be taken in the first few selections in the National Draft, McGrath improved dramatically as the season went on to put himself into contention to be taken at pick No. 1. Has showcased an ability to be most damaging as a rebounding defender who uses the football well and can break the lines off half back. Was named best on ground in the Sandringham Dragons TAC Cup Grand Final win after his 38-disposal performance through the midfield. Has top-10 results at the Draft Combine in repeat sprint, agility and running vertical jump tests. An elite junior athlete he was co-captain of Vic Metro this year.

Ben Ainsworth – Gippsland Power/Vic Country
Height: 179cm
Weight: 74kg
Position: Forward

An impressive Draft Combine was the perfect note to end the season on for one of the most exciting talents in the draft pool. Ainsworth has all the attributes to be an instant contributor to an AFL side next season with his strong marking overhead, clean crumbing skills and ability to convert his opportunities in front of goal. Second in 20-metre spring at the Combine and fifth in repeat sprints. Has shown an ability to move into the midfield when needed and averaged 29 touches and three goals a game during the last month of the TAC Cup season.

Jacob Allison – Brisbane Lions Academy
Height: 194cm
Weight: 79kg
Position: Midfielder

After bursting onto the scene as a bottom-ager in 2015 the big bodied midfielder couldn’t replicate that form in 2016. The Lions Academy product was named All Australian in 2015. He has a long penetrating kick, is athletic and has mobility to match most of his size. Can drift forward to kick a goal or can play an inside midfielders role.

Josh Battle – Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country
Height: 192cm
Weight: 90kg
Position: Forward

Josh Battle’s potential as one of the best key forwards in the draft pool was further highlighted during the TAC Cup finals when he booted a six-goal haul for the Dandenong Stingrays. The 192cm prospect booted 24 goals in eight matches for the Stingrays this season. He has shown an ability to make the most of his opportunities in front of the big sticks kicking 24.13 this season. Battle is a strong competitor who runs hard at the footy and takes a strong mark.
