The Sydney Swans host the West Coast Eagles this afternoon at the SCG for the HMAS Sydney II commemorative match.
JOSH KENNEDY – 150 SWANS GAMES
Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy is set to play his 150th game for the club today. After joining the Swans from Hawthorn at the end of 2009, the consistent midfielder has claimed the Bob Skilton Medal twice, All Australian honours twice and a premiership medal.
JARRAD AND MARK McVEIGH – 500 Games, Pair of Brothers
The McVeigh brothers are due to become the eighth pair of brothers in VFL/AFL history to reach a combined 500 games with Mark having played 232 games for Essendon and Jarrad so far having played 267 games for the Sydney Swans. The leading pairs of brothers in history are; Madden (710 games comprising 378 for Simon and 332 for Justin), Nankervis (578 games comprising 325 for Ian and 253 for Bruce) and Cornes (555 games comprising 255 for Chad and 300 for Kane).
LANCE FRANKLIN – MOST CAREER GOALS
Franklin needs five goals to draw level with Peter Hudson (727 goals for Hawthorn 1967-74 and 1977) and Wayne Carey (727 goals for North Melbourne and the Adelaide Crows 1989-2001 and 2003-04) in 17th spot overall in VFL/AFL history, having so far kicked 722 goals since his debut in 2005.
HMAS SYDNEY II TROPHY
The Swans and West Coast will compete for the HMAS Sydney II Trophy today. The match is held in memory of the 645 personnel who died when the HMAS Sydney II was sunk in 1941.
BEST ON GROUND
The player judged best on ground will be awarded the annual replica gun shell gallantry trophy. The player will also receive a silver HMAS Sydney commemorative coin, minted after the ship’s discovery.
