John Longmire is preparing his side for a ferocious battle against the Tigers when the Sydney Swans head to the MCG for the first time this season.

The Swans have back-to-back matches at the venue, kicking off against Richmond on Saturday night before a return trip to take on Hawthorn in Round 9.

Richmond has won just one game this season but enters the contest in strong form, after challenging Hawthorn for three quarters on Friday night.

Longmire is wary of his side not taking the Tigers lightly.

“They (Richmond) were really good for three quarters and their coach was really happy after the game,” Longmire said.

“For three quarters they played good football against a quality team in Hawthorn and from what I read they are going to get some good players back this week.

“I am sure they will have their confidence up going into this week after playing some pretty good footy against the Hawks.”

The 6-1 start to the season is the best start to the home-and-away season for the Sydney Swans since 1998.
