Luke Parker had just come from the interchange bench when Dane Rampe blasted a left-foot punt along the boundary line in the early stages of Saturday’s Sydney Derby IX.

In that split second, Parker had to decide whether to stay down and rove, or leap for the grab.

The 24-year-old instinctively chose the latter, and why not? With his courage and sticky mitts there was going to be only one outcome.

“I heard someone call from the bench to go for the mark, so I backed myself and it ended up alright,” Parker added.

Better than alright, with the Brett Kirk Medallist as best afield earning a Round 3 Mark of the Year nomination for his spectacular effort.

Parker, who collected 30 disposals in the 25-point win over the Giants, will go up against Essendon’s Joe Daniher and Richmond’s Sam Lloyd in this week’s voting.
